Dr. Hrishikesh Pai earned his MD in Obstetrics & Gynaecology as a Double Gold Medalist from the University of Mumbai in 1985 — one of the highest distinctions in Indian medical education. He subsequently earned an MSc (Embryology and Andrology) from Eastern Virginia Medical School, USA, and holds the honorary FRCOG Fellowship from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), London, awarded in 2019 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to women's health.
Over a four-decade career, Dr. Pai pioneered many fertility treatment firsts in India, including assisted laser hatching, spindle view imaging, ovarian tissue freezing, oocyte cryopreservation, and IMSI (intracytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm injection). He is Founder and Medical Director of the Bloom IVF Group, a network of eight IVF centres across Mumbai, Delhi, Agra, Kolhapur, and other cities, and serves as Professor of Reproductive Medicine at D Y Patil University, Navi Mumbai.
His society leadership is unparalleled in South and Southeast Asia: Past President of FOGSI (the 37,000-member Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India), Past President of the IVF Society of India (ISAR), and Regional Trustee for Asia–Oceania at FIGO (the International Federation of Gynecology & Obstetrics). He is a Founder Chair of the Indian Special Interest Group at ASRM and a nine-year Board Member of the International Federation of Fertility Societies (IFFS). He has been Editor of 28+ textbooks, contributed 65+ book chapters, and published 100+ peer-reviewed papers. He has delivered invited lectures at ASRM, ESHRE, FIGO, RCOG, IFFS, and AOFOG conferences. His 63 awards include the IFS Lifetime Achievement Award (2023), ISAR Lifetime Achievement Award (2020), and IMA Eminent Physician Award (2022).
Dr. Pai is based in Mumbai and has dedicated his career to expanding access to high-quality fertility care across India. A passionate educator, he mentors hundreds of fertility specialists each year through workshops, fellowships, and international conference presentations. He is the Founder Chair of the Indian SIG at ASRM and works to integrate Indian reproductive medicine expertise into global clinical guidelines. Outside medicine he is an enthusiastic follower of cricket and classical Indian music.
