PGT-SR (Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Structural Rearrangements)
Embryo testing for balanced chromosomal rearrangements (translocations or inversions) in parents.
PGT-SR is used when one or both partners carry a balanced chromosomal rearrangement — meaning their chromosomes are rearranged but no genetic material is lost, so they are usually healthy. However, their embryos may inherit unbalanced versions, leading to miscarriage or a child with developmental disabilities.
The test uses the same biopsy method as PGT-A, but the analysis is specifically tailored to detect whether each embryo inherited the balanced or unbalanced form of the rearrangement.
It significantly reduces the miscarriage rate in carriers and is recommended after recurrent pregnancy loss in couples found to carry a rearrangement.
