Uterine Polyps
Benign growths from the uterine lining that can interfere with embryo implantation if large.
Endometrial polyps are soft, finger-like growths arising from the uterine lining (endometrium). They can be single or multiple and range from a few millimeters to several centimeters. Small polyps are common and often asymptomatic, sometimes found incidentally during fertility evaluation.
Polyps may interfere with implantation by altering endometrial receptivity or causing mechanical obstruction. Most reproductive specialists recommend removal of polyps larger than 1 cm before IVF, though evidence for smaller polyps is less clear-cut.
Removal is performed via hysteroscopy — a minimally invasive procedure with a camera and small instruments inserted through the cervix — typically in an outpatient setting.
